Who do you support?

We work with both home-educated learners and children who attend school and need some extra support. Learners come to us for all sorts of reasons — some need help with a particular subject, some are working towards qualifications, and others need to rebuild their confidence with learning.Every child is different, so we’ll always talk to you first about what they need and whether we think B&H is the right fit.

What subjects and levels do you teach?

We teach English and Maths across a wide range of ages and levels.For learners following the National Curriculum, we provide support from Key Stage 1 right through to GCSE, including SATs and GCSE preparation. That means we can support learners from the early primary years through to Year 11.We also specialise in Functional Skills English and Maths from Entry Level 3 through to Level 2, providing an alternative qualification pathway for learners where this is more appropriate.We also offer a separate Digital Skills course, covering practical skills such as using common software and devices, staying safe online, recognising scams, understanding digital footprints and building confidence using technology. This is currently a learning course rather than a qualification.You don’t need to know which level or route is right for your child before contacting us — we can help you work that out.

Question 3

Do you offer group and one-to-one tuition?

Yes. We offer small group and one-to-one tuition, with online and in-person options available depending on the type of support your child needs.Some learners use one type of tuition while others combine different sessions. We’ll help you work out what is likely to suit your child best.

Question 4

How do your online sessions work?

Accepted Answer

Our online sessions are live on Google Meet — they aren’t pre-recorded lessons. Learners join their tutor and other learners working at a similar level, with plenty of opportunities to ask questions, join in and get help throughout the session.We teach English and Maths online, alongside our separate Digital Skills course. English and Maths learners can also use our learning platform to practise independently between sessions.

What if my child is anxious, shy or lacks confidence?

That’s absolutely okay. Many learners come to us lacking confidence, worried about getting things wrong or needing time before they feel comfortable joining in.We don’t expect confidence on day one. Building trust and helping learners feel comfortable enough to ask questions, have a go and make mistakes is a big part of what we do.

Question 6

Does my child need to attend more than one session?

Accepted Answer

Not necessarily. Families can choose the sessions that work best for their child and circumstances, and we’ll never pressure anyone into attending more than they’re comfortable with.However, we’ve found that learners often make the best progress with regular support across more than one session, particularly when they combine online learning with in-person tuition. This gives them more opportunities to practise, revisit topics and build confidence throughout the week.We’ll always recommend the approach we genuinely think will give your child the best outcome.

Question 7

How do you know what level my child is working at?

Accepted Answer

You don’t need to know your child’s exact level before coming to us. We’ll talk to you about where they’re currently at and, where appropriate, use an initial assessment to help us understand their starting point.It isn’t about passing or failing — it simply helps us make sure we’re teaching them at the right level and identifying any areas where they may need additional support.

Can my child take their Functional Skills exams through B&H?

Yes. We can support learners throughout their Functional Skills journey, from identifying their starting point and preparing for the qualification through to sitting their exams.

Question 9

What if my child has SEND or needs things taught differently?

Accepted Answer

That’s completely fine. Many of our learners need information broken down, repeated, presented differently or simply more time to process it.We get to know what works for each learner and adapt our teaching wherever we can rather than expecting every child to learn in exactly the same way.

I’m not sure what support my child needs — can I still enquire?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. You don’t need to know their exact level, which qualification they need or whether group, one-to-one, online or in-person tuition would suit them best.Tell us a little about your child, what they’re finding difficult and what you’re hoping to achieve. Beth will talk everything through with you and help you work out the options from there.
